Anti-French patriotic hero Chen Xingju

Chen Xingju, a native of Tang Yao, was born in Chen Tai Village, Chen Tai Town, Linying County, Luohe City, Henan Province in the 22nd year of Jiaqing (A.D. 18 17).

In the 29th year of Daoguang, he served as the magistrate of Shunchang, Jian 'an, Min County, Xianyou, Gutian and other counties in Fujian, and was later promoted to Lingang and Danshui Tongzhi in Taiwan Province Province. In the early years of Guangxu, he was the first Taipei magistrate.

In A.D. 1884, the Sino-French War broke out, and the French army attacked the southeast coast and approached the naval base of Mawei Port in Fujian. When the news reached Taipei, Chen Xingju called on the gentry and people in Taiwan Province Province to defend their country to the death.

In autumn, Keelung was captured by the French army.

After that, French soldiers invaded Danshui and Taipei in two ways. Chen Xingju hung his sword around his waist, mounted his horse and went to the front to bid.

At the same time, I ordered my wife and children to sit around the government well. If the war fails, they will throw themselves into the well.

Inspired by Chen Xingju's heroic feat, the defenders of Taipei and the local gentry United, and finally repelled the French attack and ensured the safety of Taipei.

1885, 69-year-old Chen Xingju died of overwork. The local military gentry built the "Chen Gong Temple" for Chen Xingju as a memorial.

In order to carry forward his heroic deeds of resisting the protection of the law, the Qing Dynasty posthumously awarded him a third-class Dojo and set up a dragon monument for the cemetery.
