1941March, the 359th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army led by Brigadier General Wang Zhen launched a famous large-scale production movement in Nanniwan. Nanniwan is the birthplace of Yan 'an spirit and China Land Reclamation.

Since the reform and opening up, Nanniwan has been well developed and constructed, especially strengthening the protection and construction of natural ecology.

1April, 1992, was announced by Shaanxi provincial government as the third batch of key cultural relics protection units.
