The sudden disappearance of a prosperous capital will not only arouse the strong interest of historians and archaeologists, but also be a great suspense for ordinary people no matter how many years later.

/kloc-the sudden destruction of the ancient city of Pompeii more than 0/900 years ago is still an enduring topic for all mankind. The ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii have been excavated since the eighteenth century, and they have been dug down from generation to generation, and only half of them have been dug up so far. There is always an endless stream of tourists from all over the world. In the face of the remains of life in the bustling city of the past, everyone's mood is very complicated. As long as people see that everything is like their own kind, they have gathered so densely in such a distant ancient time and enjoyed their daily life not far from our sensory needs, they can't help but have a profound understanding of human beings and human nature. However, this awareness was immediately driven away by almost unimaginable instantaneous destruction and replaced by an indescribable grand terror. Finally, I broke free from my panic and walked and watched in a commemorative atmosphere. At my feet, it is Pompeii of mankind.

The west should have an older and more splendid capital. I have no idea where it is. Plato mentioned in his famous dialogue that an Egyptian priest told Solon, a famous poet in Athens, that according to historical records, in distant ancient times, Athens fought a powerful army from Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean. This island is a magnificent and rich capital, with wide fresh water canals dug around the capital, rivers sailing like forests, orderly roads in cities, and palaces and temples like fairyland, which are often filled with gold, silver and ivory. Until today, there are countless articles about the geographical location and the reasons for the disappearance of Atlantis, but a large number of papers are published every year.

In the East, the fall of Angkor Wat in Cambodia is also an eternal mystery. 100 years ago, a hunter found a magnificent building with a width of 10 km in the big forest in the north of Phnom Penh. This discovery shocked the world. According to textual research, it is found that this complex actually represents a lost dynasty in history-the Khmer dynasty in the seventh century. Since then, the history of the East has added a fantastic era, and it is impossible for anyone who studies oriental aesthetics and oriental sculpture and architecture to avoid this ancient architectural complex. However, people are most interested in why such an oriental capital was suddenly abandoned by human beings in the jungle, leaving no trace in history. There are four possibilities: first, every plague in the city died; Second, there was a famine in the whole city, and people had to abandon the city and flee; Third, foreign enemies invaded, killed the city and then abandoned it; Fourth, the two major political forces in the capital fought and killed each other, and finally the victorious party was infected with the plague in the pile of dead bodies. No matter which of these four possibilities, there can be a thrilling scene, which can be imagined with your eyes closed.

When I was traveling in Ning 'an County, Heilongjiang Province, Ningguta was a famous exile in the Qing Dynasty. I know that the exiles were deeply surprised by the ruins of a huge wall in this area. Most of the exiles are scholars with profound historical attainments. They can't think of any capital city that stood here in distant ancient times. They can judge by common sense that the wall of such a wide pedestal must be extremely magnificent, so the capital must also be extraordinary, but why has it completely turned into a vast wasteland? What is it? A few of them have made a guess in their hearts, but they are rigorous scholars, and the harsh environment they live in does not allow them to consult information, measure and dig, so they can only submit to humiliation.

I wonder if any of them remember the story about the poet Li Bai, which is very popular in China. The story tells that Li Bai took off his boots for him because the emperor begged him to write something, and once again asked Yang, a prestigious official in the DPRK, to hold inkstones and grind ink for him. What important things did the emperor ask him to write to tolerate our poet's posturing? People remember that the emperor received a letter from a country called Bohai, and no one in the court could understand that kind of writing, which was very shameful. Later, he recommended Li Bai to solve this problem. Li Bai can certainly put on airs if he wants to help the emperor write a reply.

The story is just a story, and it can't be believed to be history, but the wall foundation discovered by the exiles is really the location of the capital of Bohai Sea!

The first thing I saw was the wall foundation of the outer city wall, which is a rammed earth foundation more than two meters high and more than ten meters wide, like a natural dam, extending into the distance. On this pedestal, there should have been a magnificent wall made of huge bricks and stones. Unfortunately, this is not the virgin forest where Angkor Wat is hiding, but the bright and open northeast plain. It is difficult for an abandoned city to keep anything. Everything that can be taken away by humans has been taken away by people. Generation after generation, every corner has been found clean, leaving this rammed earth base, with grass and trees, and staying quietly. Further on, I saw the gate abutment and column foundation that I couldn't take with me. It is said that many scattered objects were dug up from the ground unintentionally or planned, and the clues were gathered together. Coupled with some historical evidence, the scale of the former capital can be imagined.

From the ruins, the capital of Bohai Sea, the Longquan House in Shangjing, consists of outer city, inner city and Miyagi, and the outer city has a circumference of more than 30 miles. The whole city is divided into east and west areas by a wide avenue running through the north and south, and divided into many square areas by more than ten main streets, which is completely the pattern and style of Chang 'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. The northern half of the capital is Miyagi, where the rulers work and live. The perimeter of the city wall is also five miles, with five magnificent palaces lined inside, and there are imperial gardens, lakes, pavilions and rockeries outside the east wall. One of the most complete relics in the palace is a well found in literature, named "Glass Well of Babel". The shaft wall is composed of basaltic rocks with little damage. I wandered around the wellhead for a long time, imagining everything that has happened around it for thousands of years. It is like a cold eye that has seen too much and finally got tired of it.

Mr. Ping Liu, the deputy director of Mudanjiang Cultural Bureau who accompanied me to visit, is responsible for the excavation and management here. He said that from all kinds of materials, this city is probably one of the largest cities in Asia from the eighth century to the ninth century. At that time, it was not only the first of the 100 cities in Bohai Sea, but also a trade hub in Northeast Asia, connecting Chang 'an and Japan as economic channels. People can infer the prosperity of the city at that time by simple comparison: the pier remains of five river-crossing bridges are densely arranged on Mudanjiang River in the west and north of the capital. Now, the modern busy life of tens of thousands of people on a large piece of land nearby is more than enough by only one bridge. Think about what that day will be like!

Will such a city really disappear so completely?
