There is a place called Xujiahui in the bustling business district of Xuhui District, Shanghai. The origin of this place name is closely related to Xu Xiake, a famous scientist in Ming Dynasty.
The name "Xujiahui" comes from the fact that Xu Xiake once lived here and left many traces. Later, the human geographical location here continued to grow and become one of the commercial centers and important transportation hubs in Shanghai.
Although Xu Xiake is no longer alive, his academic achievements and contributions have always been remembered by future generations. While shopping, entertaining and relaxing, people often look back at that period of history and imagine the wisdom and footprints left by that master here.
Role experience:
Xu Xiake, whose real name was Zhao Wei, was born in the 15th year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (1587) and died in the 7th year of the Apocalypse (1627). He is a famous astronomer, geographer, explorer and poet in the history of China. He is naturally eager to learn. At the age of nine, I began to read classic works such as Spring and Autumn Annals and Analects of Confucius, and I have been learning and exploring knowledge in various fields in my later life journey.
Xu Xiake traveled many times in Jiangnan during his academic career, leaving many academic heritages in Shanghai. According to records, Xu Xiake put his sundial and marble observatory in a residential building in Xuhui District, Shanghai. The existence of these vessels and cultural relics provided valuable materials for later academic research and historical textual research.
