Biodiversity refers to the diversity of all life forms, levels and combinations on the earth. Simply put, biodiversity is the overall diversity and variability of organisms and their systems. Biodiversity includes three levels: genetic diversity, species diversity and ecosystem diversity.
In view of the importance of public education and raising people's ecological awareness to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity at all levels, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 55/20 1 on February 20, 2000, declaring May 22 of each year, the day when the Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted, as the International Biodiversity Day.

The Convention was opened for signature during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development on June 5, 1992, and entered into force on February 29, 1993. The first meeting of States parties was held in the Bahamas in June. The meeting suggested that the effective date of the Convention should be 65438+February 29th, International Biodiversity Day.
1992, at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, then the capital of Brazil, 153 countries signed the Convention on the Protection of Biological Diversity.
