Taishan City, formerly known as Xinning, 1992 withdrew from the county to set up a city, which was managed by Jiangmen City. It is located in the southwest of the Pearl River Delta, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, and south to the South China Sea.

Taishan is located in the southwest of the Pearl River Delta, adjacent to Zhuhai Special Zone in the east, Xinhui District in Jiangmen in the north, Kaiping, Enping and Yangjiang in the west and the South China Sea in the south.
