How long is the history of Tangshan?
Tangshan is named after Dacheng Mountain (formerly Tangshan) in the city center.

In 645 AD, Emperor Taizong Li Shimin led an army eastward into the Korean Peninsula.

On the way back, she passed by here and was stationed in Dacheng Mountain in Tangshan. Her beloved Princess Cao Fei died unfortunately.

Li Shimin remembered his beloved princess and was specially allowed to use the country name, so he named this mountain Tangshan.

Later it became a city name.

Tangshan has a long history. As early as 40 thousand years ago, ancient people lived here and had close ties with people in Zhoukoudian, Beijing.

Shang Dynasty was an isolated bamboo country, Warring States was Yan Di, and Han Dynasty was a closed country.

During the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin made two voyages to the Western Ocean, and both of them stationed troops in Dacheng Mountain in the urban area, giving him the surname Tang, hence the name Tangshan.

In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Yongping Prefecture and Zunhua Zhili Prefecture.

With the rise of "Westernization Movement" in the late Qing Dynasty, Kaiping Mining Bureau was established here in the third year of Guangxu (1877), and advanced western technology was introduced to run mines and dig coal.

1938, Tangshan was formally established.

This is one of the cradles of modern industry in China.

The first modern coal mine, the first standard gauge railway, the first steam locomotive, the first bag of machine-made cement and the first piece of sanitary porcelain in China were born here, which is known as "the cradle of modern industry in China" and "the porcelain capital of northern China".

Originally a village in Tangshan, it has developed to a certain extent since the Ming Dynasty, mainly in agriculture, oil exploitation and pottery making.

With the rise of Westernization Movement in the late Qing Dynasty, Kaiping Mining Bureau was established in Tangshan in the third year of Guangxu (1877).

Qiaotun Town was built in Tangshan in 1878, renamed Tangshan Town in 1889, and was formally established in 1938.

On April 2nd, 1960, the State Council officially approved the cancellation of Tangshan Special Zone, and Qinhuangdao City, Qian 'an City, Changli County, Laoting County, Baodi County, yutian county, Jixian County and zunhua city under the former Tangshan Special Zone were placed under Tangshan City.

After the revocation of Tangshan Special Zone, Luanxian County, Feng Run County (former municipal district) and Baigezhuang Farm were actually placed under Tangshan City.

At the same time, Tangshan was changed to a provincial city.

1961On May 23rd, with the approval of the State Council, the Tangshan Special Zone was resumed.

On June 1 day of the same year, the People's Committee of Hebei Province adopted a resolution at its14th meeting to restore the Tangshan Special Zone.

Since then, Tangshan's colleges and universities have been separated from the city, and Tangshan has been changed into a municipality directly under the central government.
