Li Shimin remembered his beloved princess and was specially allowed to use the country name, so he named this mountain Tangshan.
Later it became a city name.
Tangshan has a long history. As early as 40 thousand years ago, ancient people lived here and had close ties with people in Zhoukoudian, Beijing.
Shang Dynasty was an isolated bamboo country, Warring States was Yan Di, and Han Dynasty was a closed country.
During the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin made two voyages to the Western Ocean, and both of them stationed troops in Dacheng Mountain in the urban area, giving him the surname Tang, hence the name Tangshan.
In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Yongping Prefecture and Zunhua Zhili Prefecture.
With the rise of "Westernization Movement" in the late Qing Dynasty, Kaiping Mining Bureau was established here in the third year of Guangxu (1877), and advanced western technology was introduced to run mines and dig coal.
