At the end of Kaiyuan, Shen Shi was elected to the East Palace as his adopted son, and Prince Hengli gave Shen Shi to Li Chu (later changed to Li Yu). In 742, Shen Shi gave birth to the emperor's great-grandson Shili, now Tang Dezong, for Li Chu, a Guangping king aged 15 in the East Palace of Chang 'an Palace.

In 755, Xuanzong fled hastily in the Anshi Rebellion, but Shen Shi and some clan members were not lucky enough to escape with him. In 756, Li Yu recovered Luoyang and met Shen Shi at Yeting Palace. He was responsible for recovering the north and didn't welcome back to Chang 'an, so Li Yu arranged Shen Shi in Luoyang.
