The only female champion in the history of China was Fu Shanxiang during the revolutionary movement in the late Qing Dynasty (Taiping Heavenly Kingdom).

Fu Shanxiang (1833—1856? ), a native of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, was the first and only female champion in the history of China. Born in a scholarly family, he was smart since childhood and liked to read the history of classics.

1853 (the third year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty), the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom started the imperial examination for female talents. After Fu Shanxiang successfully signed up for the female gifted scholar exam, she won the first place in senior three.

After the Tianjing Incident of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, Fu Shanxiang's whereabouts were unknown. He said that Fu Shanxiang was killed and dumped in the disorderly army, so he went east.
