History of Shanghai University of Science and Technology
1958, scientists from some scientific research institutes in Beijing (including Qian Xuesen, Guo Yonghuai, etc. ) Based on the scientific research strength of China Academy of Sciences, it is proposed to establish a new socialist university by adopting the policy of "running the whole school and combining departments".

Member the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Vice Premier the State Council, Nie, Director of the State Science and Technology Commission, First Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Ke Qingshi, Mayor of Shanghai, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Director of Shanghai Institute of China Academy of Sciences, etc. Hold a meeting to study and decide. At the same time, the Chinese Academy of Sciences is responsible for the establishment of the University of Science and Technology of China, and the Shanghai Local Finance and the Chinese Academy of Sciences are responsible for the establishment of another university combining science and technology in Shanghai, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, to train cutting-edge scientific and technological talents for the country. This day also marks the birth of Shanghai University of Science and Technology. The Municipal Party Committee decided that Liu Shuzhou, on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee, would be fully responsible for the establishment of the Shanghai University of Science and Technology. Since then, the Shanghai Office of China Academy of Sciences, which was appointed to run a school, has built Shanghai University of Science and Technology at an extraordinary speed with the strong support and close cooperation of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and relevant departments.

On May 23rd, 1958, Shanghai Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences immediately established a committee for the preparation of Shanghai University of Science and Technology. The director of the Committee is Wang Zhongliang, deputy director of Shanghai Office of China Academy of Sciences and deputy secretary of Shanghai Office Committee. The Preparatory Committee set up a working group of Shanghai University of Science and Technology, and appointed Lu Zhijie as the office director. The team office is located in the office compound of Shanghai Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, No.320 Yueyang Road, Shanghai. On May 24th, the office held a meeting of directors and party branch secretaries of various research institutes. Wang Zhongliang conveyed the decision to establish Shanghai University of Science and Technology to the participants. The participating scientists spoke enthusiastically and expressed their opinions. The unanimous opinion is that the institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai are responsible for running a department for Shanghai University of Science and Technology. To run Shanghai University of Science and Technology well, "running the whole school" and "merging departments" are the school-running policies. At the beginning of June, China Academy of Sciences Shanghai Office held a series of symposiums under the auspices of Wang Zhongliang to discuss the purpose and policies of Shanghai University of Science and Technology and explore a new school-running model. Scientists attending the symposium agreed that Shanghai University of Science and Technology should be different from ordinary universities, and must be a new university with high (advanced), sophisticated (sophisticated) and cutting-edge professional disciplines, so as to cultivate outstanding advanced scientific research and development talents for scientific research institutions and new technology industrial bases in China and Shanghai. Running a school requires the combination of science and technology; The setting of disciplines and specialties should reflect the development direction of science and technology and the characteristics of the times in order to enhance the national defense strength.
