Fa Xian, a monk in the Eastern Jin Dynasty: (337-422), a native of Shangdang xiang yuan (now Xiangyuan County, Shanxi), was an outstanding traveler, translator, geographer and writer in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. He was the first monk in China to study Buddhism in the "Western Heaven" (now India). More than 200 years earlier than Tang Priest's mysterious hiding in the Western Heaven. He became a monk since he was a child, aiming high. At the age of 62, he went to Tianzhu (now Yinkuan) to study. After 14 years, he traveled to more than 30 countries, brought back Brahma (now India) Buddhist scriptures 10, and translated 10 volumes. He wrote China's first travel book, namely "The Buddha's Theory". Fa Xian's life has made indelible contributions to China's Buddhist culture, cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and the development of human civilization.
