Shanlian is famous for producing lake pens, and is known as the "Lake Pen Capital of China". According to China Dictionary of Ancient and Modern Place Names, "Shanlian is 70 miles southeast of Fucheng, Xing Wu, Zhejiang, also known as Shanlian. There are four bridges in the city, namely, Fushan, Baoshan, Qingshan and Yishan, which are connected with the city and shaped like a bunch of exercises, hence the name. " Shanlian is one of the seven ancient towns in Huzhou.
