What's the connection between Beijing Power Grid's winter electricity load breaking the historical record?
From June 20438 to February 2020, China was hit by the strongest cold air since 2008. The temperature in various places has dropped precipitously, even exceeding the lowest temperature ever recorded, and the pressure on power supply is enormous. The winter electricity load of Beijing Power Grid broke the historical record. Many areas have taken measures to limit electricity to ensure a stable supply of electricity for residents. Why there will be a power supply gap this year is mainly affected by three factors.

1. China is constantly optimizing its power supply structure.

10 years ago, northern China was often affected by sandstorms, smog and other polluted air. It poses a great threat to people's health. In order to completely solve this problem that the broad masses of the people are concerned about. China began to optimize the power supply structure, improve the technical standards of thermal power generation, eliminate small thermal power plants with serious pollution and unqualified technical indicators, and improve the technical standards of new large-scale thermal power projects. In the following years, although the installed capacity of thermal power in China has increased, its proportion in China's power supply is slowly declining.

2. The demand of China residents and enterprises for electricity is increasing.

Electricity consumption includes residential electricity consumption and enterprise production electricity consumption, and enterprise production electricity consumption is much higher than residential electricity consumption. It can reflect the production and electricity consumption of enterprises from the economic development of China. The higher the national economic output, the more active the production and operation of enterprises, and the greater the demand for electricity. Since the reform and opening up, China's GDP level has increased year by year. It can be seen that the production electricity consumption of enterprises is also increasing year by year. Residents' electricity consumption is relatively stable, but it will be affected by seasonal factors. Usually, the demand for electricity in Xia Dong is high in two seasons. This is mainly because of the great demand for cooling in summer and heating in winter, which leads to seasonal fluctuation of electricity demand.

3. There is a shortage of coal for thermal power generation.

Although China is rich in coal resources, the quality is generally not high, especially the coal used for thermal power generation is obviously in short supply. China mainly imports high-quality coal from Australia and other countries. Due to the deterioration of Sino-Australian relations, China has suspended the import of electric coal from Australia. This leads to the shortage of coal supply for thermal power generation in China.

Under the influence of strong cold air this winter, the demand for domestic electricity in China has surged, but due to external factors, the supply of coal for thermal power generation is insufficient, resulting in the overall power supply in China being unable to meet the peak demand for electricity in winter.
