The Development History of Information Visualization
Since the birth of data graphics at the end of18th century, the visual expression of abstract information has been used to reveal the mystery of data and other hidden patterns. Recently, the graphical interface appeared in 1990s, which enabled people to directly interact with visual information, thus creating and promoting the research on information visualization for more than ten years. Information visualization attempts to use human visual ability to understand the meaning of abstract information, thus strengthening human cognitive activities. In this way, human beings with fixed perception can control the increasing data. The English term "information visualization" was coined by Stuart Card, York McKinley and george robertson in 1989. According to Stuart Card's report 1999, information visualization, a field that only rose in the 1990s, actually originated from several other fields. In 2003, Ben Nederman pointed out that this field has emerged from the research field in a slightly different direction. At the same time, he also mentioned graphics, visual design, computer science and human-computer interaction, as well as the newly emerging psychology and business methods.
