History of Shing Mun Country Park
In order to cope with the population explosion and the increasing demand for drinking water, the authorities began to build the Shing Mun Reservoir on 1933 and moved the residents there to the New Territories. The project was completed in 1936, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of King George V's accession to the throne, so it was also called "Jubilee Reservoir". During the Japanese occupation of World War II, a large number of trees in the Chengmen area were cut down and replanted after the war, including Pinus elliottii, bakelite, Melaleuca, Acacia formosana and so on. It is one of the major planting areas in Hong Kong.

197 1 The Hong Kong Government allocated funds from the Sir David Trench Recreation Fund to set up a number of experimental recreational facilities for outings, which were well received by the public. In addition, in order to cope with the traffic between Mobil, Lei Muk Shue and Kwai Chung to and from the eastern New Territories and reduce the congestion of the Lion Tunnel, the Government specially built the Shing Mun Tunnel in February 1987, and this tunnel was completed in April 1990.
