The most difficult aqueduct in the world.
Do you know where the most difficult project in the world is? It is the Hongqi Canal located in Linzhou City, Henan Province, China, and is known as the "Artificial Tianhe".

The Hongqi Canal Project 1960 started in February, and the auxiliary canal project 1969 was fully completed in July, which lasted nearly ten years.

Project * * * leveled 1250 hill, erected 15 1 aqueduct, excavated 2 1 1 tunnel, built 12408 building, and excavated 22.25 million cubic meters of earth and stone.

The main canal of Hongqi Canal is 70.6 kilometers long (Shicheng Town, Shanxi Province-Rencun Town, Henan Province), with a bottom width of 8 meters, a wall height of 4.3 meters and a longitudinal slope of 1/8000. Branches of the main canal are distributed in towns and villages throughout the city.

According to calculation, if these earth-rock barriers are built into walls with a height of 2 meters and a width of 3 meters, they can run through the north and south of the motherland, bypass Beijing and connect Guangzhou and Harbin.

Some people may ask, since it is so difficult, why build such an aqueduct?

It is reported that Linzhou City is located at the junction of Henan, Shanxi and Hebei provinces, and suffered from severe drought and water shortage in history.

According to historical records, from the first year of Ming Dynasty (i.e. 1436) to the founding of New China (1949) and the spring and autumn of ***5 14, there were more than 30 natural disasters and droughts in Linxian County.

Sometimes, after years of severe drought, rivers and wells dry up and crops fail. According to historical records and folklore, the drought is very serious and people eat each other. In these 5 14 years, people ate each other five times.

Although the government has built many water conservancy projects, it has alleviated the problem of water use to some extent. However, the problem of drought here has not been completely solved. 1959, Linxian county suffered an unprecedented drought.

In order to solve this problem completely, Linxian County Committee turned its attention to the outside of Linxian County and thought of Zhangzhuohe River, which is rich in water resources.

1February, 960, Linxian people began to build the Red Flag Canal. Taking Zhangzhuohe River as the source, a dam was built at Houbi Fault in Shicheng Town, Pingshun County, Shanxi Province, and Zhanghe River water was introduced into Linxian County, Henan Province (now Linzhou, Henan Province).

Since the construction of Hongqi Canal for nearly ten years, people in Linxian County have encountered various problems. For example, a large amount of lime was used in the construction of Hongqi Canal, and the insufficient supply of lime became the main obstacle to the maintenance of the canal. Later, Yuan Shuquan, the "King of Burning Ash" of Dongyao Commune, volunteered to burn lime.

There are countless similar problems, but with the unity of Linxian people, it took nearly ten years to build them.

According to statistics, the total investment of Hongqi Canal Project is 56 1, 654,38+0,000. The total investment is125.04 million yuan, involving 70,000 people.
