The history of Lin 'an City can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty, and it really became the capital after the Battle of Guandu in the Southern Song Dynasty. At that time, the Southern Song Dynasty lost a large territory in the north, so it moved its capital from Jinling (now Nanjing) to Lin 'an. Lin 'an City was carefully built by craftsmen for eight years, including the triple walls of imperial city, inner city and outer city, which was a great engineering construction at that time. The whole city covers an area of tens of square kilometers, and the wall is nearly ten meters high, which can resist foreign enemies.
During the Southern Song Dynasty, Lin 'an was the political and economic center of China. It is not only the seat of the government, but also an important handicraft industry and maritime trade center, such as textiles, paper making and ceramics. There are many important cultural heritages in Lin 'an, such as Pagoda of Six Harmonies and Bai Causeway, which added a lot of historical and cultural details to Hangzhou later.
Although Lin 'an was a very prosperous city in the Southern Song Dynasty, its glory only lasted for more than a century, because in 1276, the Mongolian Empire occupied Lin 'an, the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty, and eventually declined. Since then, although Lin 'an still retains a certain political and economic status, it has become a famous historical city and is no longer the capital and important city of China.
