He was once a member of Tianzhangge, known as "Bao", and later he was a straight bachelor of Longtuge, so later generations also died as "Bao" as a gift to the ministers of the Ministry of Rites.
There are many elements in the story of Bao Zheng's conviction, and only one is recorded in The History of Song Dynasty.
When Bao Gong was working in Tianchang County, Anhui Province, a farmer went to the county government with a sad face and complained that someone had cut off the tongue of his cow and asked the government to arrest the murderer. This kind of small case was dismissed by a faint official, but Bao Gong, who loves the people like a son, knows the value of a cow to small farmers. He accepted this "headless case" with only victims and no defendants. Bao Gong's analysis shows that it is unprofitable for criminals to cut off the tongue of cattle, but it is only a means to retaliate against the enemy's family. Bao Zheng pondered for a moment, thought for a moment, and said to the farmer, "A cow with its tongue cut will not live long. Kill the cow first and sell the beef to make some money. But don't say I agree with you to kill the cow, or you won't be able to solve the case. " The farmer is confused. Isn't there "don't kill cows" in the imperial edict? Why does this county grandfather want me to slaughter cattle illegally? Since it was ordered by the county grandfather, I had to do it. Not long after, someone went to the county government to complain that someone had slaughtered cattle privately. Bao Gong immediately went to court and shouted, "Bold gangster, why did you cut off people's tongues and accuse them of slaughtering cattle privately?" Come on, confess! Hearing this, the man was shocked, thinking that the matter was exposed. Because he had a grudge against his master, he had to confess the crime of hurting his own cattle and others first. A thorny "headless case" was easily solved by Bao Zheng.
