Why is it called Xiantao city
In the 10th year of Jiajing (153 1), the government of mian yang sent officials here to take charge of shipping affairs. In the forty-third year of Jiajing (1564), troops were stationed to prevent bandits. Since then, merchants have gathered and become increasingly prosperous. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the Li Zicheng Rebel Army approached Mianyang, and the government increased its troops to defend it, named it "Fairy Town Whistle", and then set up an administrative agency here, named it "Fairy Town Department", forming a unified township. Later, it was named "Xiantao Town" and has been inherited ever since. 1952, Biyang County moved to Xiantao Town. 1986 withdraw from the county to build the city, which is named after the county place name.

Xiantao has a long history and talented people come forth in large numbers. It is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in China, the first county in the national college entrance examination, and the only hometown of gymnastics in China. In 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Xiantao City created the world sports myth of "one town, two champions, three gold medals and four medals". Xiantao is the only gymnastics town in China.
