The play is adapted from the novel 1 1 Special Agent Guifei by Xiaoxiang Donger. It tells the story of guardian, betrayal, faith and love of Chu Qiao, a maverick slave, in the process of helping to establish a new regime in the troubled times of the Western Wei Dynasty.
