First: the method of direct beating.
In ancient times, the most direct way to plague locusts was to fight directly. Usually put a board on a wooden stick and then hit it directly. Because the board has a large stress area, it can kill many locusts if it is hit at once. However, there were not dozens or hundreds of locusts at that time, but hundreds of thousands. The density of this locust is that the sky looks gray and the air is full of insects.
But this practice is laborious and the effect is slow. If there are only a few hundred or even thousands of locusts, they may be killed by people, but if they have become locust plagues, this is more helpless.
Second: dig a hole and bury it.
This method is a little better than the first method, that is, dig a pit in the crop field in advance, then put some sticky things in the pit, and then everyone stands around the pit and drives all the locusts into the pit with knocking tools. Then these locusts that have been shot down can be killed, and those that have not been killed can also stick to the bottom of the pit. When enough locusts are caught, you can directly fill the pit with soil, which is equivalent to burying these locusts alive.
Third: fire.
Although there are many locusts, they are very afraid of fire. So people at that time would light torches at night and burn all the locusts in the dealers to death. During the day, they will build a bonfire and kill all the locusts nearby. This method is much more efficient than the first two methods.
Fourth: pesticides kill insects.
It was not until the founding of New China that agricultural experts at that time developed pesticides to kill insects. Spraying pesticides directly in the field according to a certain proportion can kill locusts in the largest area. At that time, in order to eliminate locusts as soon as possible, people even began to eat locusts, but the effect was not obvious. The most effective way is to use pesticides and fire.
