Let's start with the Stone Age. The Stone Age was the first time that archaeology divided early human history into stages, which started about two or three million years ago and ended about 6,000 to 4,000 years ago. As the name implies, the Stone Age refers to the era when people used stones as tools. With the development of the times, human stone-making technology is constantly evolving, which can be divided into three independent stages: Paleolithic Age, Mesolithic Age and Neolithic Age.
The Paleolithic Age was the first age of mankind from the perspective of archaeology, so there was no other age before.
1. Paleolithic is the early stone age, about 2.5 million years ago-about 1, 000 years ago. During this period, humans began to make stone tools, mastered the ability to make simple combined tools, learned the skills of drilling wood for fire, and began to form a matriarchal social way.
This period, for the earth, is under the overall situation of the ice age. The earth is like a snowball, which has been in cold for a long time. Therefore, the Paleolithic Age is sometimes called the Ice Age. Typical human sites excavated in this period include Yuanmou man, Lantian man, Zhoukoudian man in Beijing and cavemen.
The Middle Stone Age began about 20,000 years ago. After the ice age, in order to adapt to the new natural environment, human beings began to constantly invent and innovate new things. Mankind has made great progress in gathering, fishing and hunting. This is the transitional stage from Paleolithic to Neolithic. During this period, agriculture began to appear.
The Middle Stone Age was characterized by small tools made of flint. Fishing tools, stone axes and wooden objects, such as canoes and paddles, can be found in some areas.
The Neolithic Age is the last stage of the Stone Age. It started about ten thousand years ago and ended five thousand years ago.
The Neolithic Age 2000 years ago was a period of great leap in human life style. Humans no longer rely solely on nature to survive, but begin to learn agriculture, animal husbandry and domestication. As a result, the food source has become stable, and human beings have a stable settlement. The improvement of life also promoted the development of culture, and many new civilizations appeared in this period, such as Hemudu culture and Yangshao culture in China.
In the Neolithic Age, people were able to make pottery and start spinning. Tools are mainly tools for grinding stones.
