Nanjing Museum is a comprehensive museum of history and art, a municipal museum in Nanjing, one of the national key museums, and a patriotic education base in Jiangsu and Nanjing. Her predecessor was the Nanjing Cultural Relics Protection Committee established in the early days of the People's Republic of China, and the Nanjing Museum was officially listed 1978. Nanjing Museum is responsible for the archaeological investigation, cultural relics protection, collection and preservation of underground sites and ancient tombs in Nanjing. Based on rich cultural relics, documents and research results, this paper shows the development track of Nanjing in various historical development stages in China, focusing on the historical and cultural achievements of Nanjing's ancient capital.
Located in the Chaotian Palace in the center of the city, the museum is the largest ancient architectural complex in the south of the Yangtze River and one of the key cultural relics protection units in Jiangsu Province.
Nanjing Museum has a professional archaeological team, which is responsible for the archaeological excavation and investigation of underground tombs and sites in Nanjing. A large number of field archaeological achievements provide abundant data for studying the historical and cultural track of Nanjing. The archaeological excavation of Homo erectus site in Tangshan, Nanjing, unearthed 350,000-year-old Nanjing ape-man skull fossils and a large number of animal fossils, which is the earliest human remains found in Nanjing. This archaeology was rated as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in China from 65438 to 0994 and the Ninth Five-Year Plan period. The archaeological report of Nanjing Man Fossil Site won the second prize of the Second Xia Nai Archaeological Achievement Award and the second Jiangsu Wenbo Academic Works Award. Archaeological excavations of a number of family cemeteries of the Six Dynasties in Xiangshan, Nanjing, obtained valuable information on the burial system and customs of the families of the Six Dynasties, especially Wang, Xie, Li and Gao, and were awarded as the top ten new archaeological discoveries in China from 65438 to 0998. The excavation of Xuecheng site in Gaochun has unearthed a large number of Neolithic cultural relics, among which painted pottery and jade are extremely precious. It is another Neolithic settlement site in Nanjing after the discovery of Beiyinying site in Nanjing, and won the nomination award of 1997 China Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries. In addition, the archaeology of Nanjing Museum focused on the prehistoric archaeology of Nanjing, the archaeology of the Six Dynasties and the archaeology of the Ming Dynasty, and gained a lot. Archaeological excavations of ancient cultural sites such as Tangquan Niutougang, Jiankang City in Six Dynasties, Imperial Mausoleum in Six Dynasties, Forbidden City in Ming Dynasty and Longjiang Shipyard in Ming Dynasty are all important topics in archaeological research.
Nanjing Museum has a collection of100000 cultural relics, from ancient times to the Republic of China. The collection is rich in connotation, with high historical, artistic and scientific value, and is a witness to the history of Nanjing. The storage office undertakes the collection and preservation of national cultural relics and conducts research on the collection. Among the cultural relics in the collection, a number of cultural relics, such as Nanjing human skull fossils, celadon herringbone pots, celadon lotus statues, family epitaphs of Wang and Xie, blue-and-white lotus chasing Han Xin plum bottles, Yunlong jade belt inlaid with gold, and fishermen playing amber cups, are well-known at home and abroad, and are typical representatives of the essence of cultural relics in a historical period. In terms of collection research, the six dynasties' elegant demeanor, golden jade, Nanjing Museum's collection and seal, Ming Dynasty official costume jewelry and so on. It has been published, and the collections are introduced in Nanjing Cultural Relics Essence, Nanjing Cultural History, Nanjing Cultural Relics History and Jiangsu Cultural Relics History. The exhibition is an important window of the museum. In recent years, Nanjing Museum is positioned to show the history and culture of the ancient capital Nanjing. According to the characteristics of cultural relics in the collection, combined with historical documents, two exhibitions were held to basically show the history and culture of the ancient capital Nanjing, that is, the elegant demeanor of the Six Dynasties was rated as the "First Top Ten Excellent Exhibitions in China". In order to make better use of cultural relics and give full play to their advantages in collection, special exhibitions such as cultural relics of the Republic of China, epitaphs of the Six Dynasties, Gu Yan, antiques, etc. were also held to give visitors more opportunities to concentrate on watching them. In addition, exhibitions of foreign cultural relics and works of art were introduced to show excellent foreign cultures, and exhibitions of Renaissance works collected by the Italian Bei Lini Museum and Florentine aristocratic costumes in the 6th century A.D. 15- 16 were held. The collection of cultural relics has traveled across the ocean for many times and has been exhibited in the United States, Germany, Britain, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and other countries, which has aroused great interest from audiences all over the world.
Publicity and education work has its own characteristics. A bilingual team of Chinese and English interpreters has won many prizes in national, provincial and municipal interpretation competitions. A voice interpretation system in Chinese, English and Japanese can meet the needs of domestic and foreign audiences. There is also a team of volunteer instructors of college students, who provide tour guide explanation services on holidays. We have established educational and practical bases with more than 60 schools and carried out a wide range of social activities. The annual summer camp attracts many students.
Chaotian Palace Antiques is a folk collection trading market managed by Nanjing Museum. Since its inception, it has been favored by Chinese and foreign antique collectors, and its scale and influence are growing. It has become a distribution center for North-South folk collections with Nanjing as the core, and one of the top ten domestic folk collections trading markets. On holidays, people are crowded and the scene is hot.
