GB code, full name GB23 12-80 "Basic Character Set of Chinese Characters for Information Interchange", published in 1980, is the national standard for Chinese information processing. Simplified Chinese is the only Chinese code that is mandatory in Chinese mainland and overseas (such as Singapore). P-Windows3.2 and Apple OS use GB23 12 as the basic Chinese character encoding, while Windows 95/98 uses GBK as the basic Chinese character encoding, but it is compatible with GB23 12. GB code contains 6763 simplified words and 682 symbols, among which Chinese characters are: the first-level word 3755, sorted by pinyin, and the second-level word 3008, sorted by radicals. The formulation and application of this standard has played a great role in standardizing and promoting the informatization process in China.
GBK coding is a new extended national standard for Chinese coding formulated by Chinese mainland, which is equivalent to UCS. The GBK working group completed the GBK specification in 1995 10 and 12 in the same year. This coding standard is compatible with GB23 12, contains 2 1003 Chinese characters and 883 symbols, provides 1894 word-making code points, and integrates simplified and traditional Chinese characters into one library.
