What does the name Urumqi mean?
Urumqi means "beautiful pasture" in Mongolian. 1755 (twenty years of Qianlong), that is, at the end of the Junggar khanate, Urumqi began large-scale development. In order to completely quell the Junggar rebellion (finally settled in 1757), the Qing government built a base and stationed troops in Jiujiawan (now Urumqi), and named this place "Urumqi".
