Extended data:

Experts and scholars have always held different views on the theme of this novel, and students basically hold the theory of "supporting Liu and opposing Cao". The Romance of the Three Kingdoms regards Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu and other Shu officials as the embodiment of ideal political and moral concepts and a model of benevolence and virtue.

Cao Cao of Wei State is regarded as a representative of treachery, blackmail and tyranny, while Sun Wu is only a foil, so he has an obvious tendency to "support Liu against Cao Cao". Historically, there have always been different views on who is orthodox, Cao or Liu. In orthodox historical works, Shu is generally regarded as orthodox and Wei and Wu as usurpers from Zhu's "Flowers in the Mirror".

There has always been a tendency to respect Liu and belittle Cao for stories circulated among the people. The reasons are as follows: firstly, Liu Bei is an "imperial clan" and has some orthodoxy in blood relationship; Second, Liu Bei has always been known as "Hongyi is generous, knowing people and being a good teacher" and is easily accepted.

Especially since the Song and Yuan Dynasties, ethnic conflicts have been sharp, and "being kind and considerate of the Han people" was the common aspiration of the Han people at that time. Therefore, Liu Beishu, who is both a "Han clan" and a "benevolent man", is regarded as a benevolent monarch and orthodox, which can best cater to the public's acceptance psychology and meet the good wishes of the general public.
