Nanyang, China was called Wan in ancient times (now Nanyang City, Henan Province). Nanyang city is located in Nanyang basin, surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the word wan reflects the basin landform of Nanyang. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was called Wancheng. Nanyang, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, is an important transportation hub in the central region approved by the State Council and a regional central city in the border region of Henan, Hubei and Shaanxi.

Xichuan, Nanyang is the location of Taocha canal head project, and it is also one of the important core water sources of the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project, the largest water transfer project in the world.
