Experts found the tomb of Song Dynasty in Shaanxi, but when they opened it, they saw sleeping men and women. Is this a custom?
Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology conducted an emergency archaeological restoration of the land requisitioned for the construction of Hancheng Mining Bureau. A total of 47 graves were cleared. This tomb of the Song Dynasty named m2 18 has attracted great attention from experts. There are organs in the grave that have never been stolen for thousands of years. More importantly, the preserved murals are clearly visible, which is an important achievement of this emergency repair work. In archaeological activities, experts dug up an ancient tomb with mechanical devices. When people opened the grave, they found a man and a woman sleeping in the quilt.

Although the bodies of male and female tomb owners have rotted, they can still be seen lying flat and sleeping when buried. The owner of the tomb did not use the coffin, but put it directly on the brick sofa. When unearthed, it was covered with a thick fiber blanket, and the clothes and bones had completely rotted. It can still be seen that the style of the tomb is upright, with the body on its back and the head facing north. The length of male skeleton is 1.80m in the east and 1.65m in the west. They all have brown and red hair. The base of the bench where the male and female tomb owners are located is a stone base carved with peony flowers, surrounded by well-preserved simple wooden fences.

Due to the anti-theft mechanism at the top of the tomb and the special design of the small tomb, the tomb escaped the excavation of grave robbers in previous dynasties and has been well preserved so far. We were disappointed when we found this ancient tomb. There are traces of grave robbers in this ancient tomb. Officials' graves are usually wrapped in many bricks to prevent grave robbers from destroying them. Judging from the shape of this ancient tomb in Xi 'an, it should also be a very real organ tomb, which surprised experts. There is neither an epitaph nor any record to prove the identity of the owner of the tomb. The only thing that can be studied is some simple murals.

Unfortunately, there are no funerary objects and epitaphs in this tomb, which makes it impossible for experts to infer the true identity of the couple. Experts also found some details by observing the bones to prove the identity of the tomb owner. For example, the orthopedic surgeon of the Affiliated Hospital of Hancheng Mining Bureau confirmed by on-site appraisal that the bones of the woman's feet developed normally and there was no sign of external pressure, which was enough to prove that the woman did not tie her feet at that time. Later, after DNA testing, it was found that the tomb owner and his wife were both white from the Middle East, and the mystery was solved. Experts believe that the owner of the tomb was a foreign doctor in the Song Dynasty and was buried here because he lived in China for a long time.
