Dongshan School is located at the foot of Dongtai Mountain on the south bank of Lianshui in the south of Xiangxiang City. Originally known as Dongshan Academy, it was built by 100 squire in the 16th year of Guangxu (1890).
Mao Zedong is studying here.
19 10 autumn, Mao Zedong studied here, as did Chen Geng, Mao Zetan, Tan Zheng and Xiaosan.

Now Dongshan School still maintains the style of noon 19 10. The teaching building faces south, with a blue brick wall, and a section due south as a screen wall, with two doors open. The red gold plaque on Dongtai Gate was inscribed by Mao Zedong in 1958. There is a river in the wall, which is clear and reflects Dongtai. Across the river is a temporary bridge built of gravel. The school building is made of brick hard rocks and has a typical local ancestral temple style.
