In the second year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1863)1February 20th, Zeng Guofan saw the trial of a newly-built small steamboat at Anqing Wharf, and wrote emotionally in his diary: The trial construction of this ship will be enlarged in turn, and more ships will be built. Although the launch of this small steamboat was only the prototype of Huanggu, the first steamboat in China, it was China people who built a steam-powered boat with their own smart construction.
