In Jin Yong's novel The Duke Of Mount Deer, Princess Channing is Kangxi's sister. But this is not the case in official history. Princess Channing is Huang Taiji's daughter and Fu Lin's sister.
Historically, after Wu Sangui surrendered to the Qing Dynasty, he was named King of the Day, stationed in Yunnan and Guizhou, and controlled hundreds of thousands of troops. In order to prevent Wu Sangui from defecting, Emperor Shunzhi betrothed his sister to Wu, the son of Wu Sangui, in 1653, and named Wu the fourteenth son, giving birth to a son Wu Shilin. As a "proton", Wu has been living in Beijing.
I thought Wu Sangui could be contained by political marriage, but it turned out to be contrary to my wishes, and Wu Sangui finally turned against him.
In the twelfth year of Kangxi, Emperor Kangxi decided to quit the vassal. Wu Sangui rebelled. Before the rebellion, Wu Sangui secretly sent someone to inform Wu to abscond and made a plan to meet him.
However, Wu Xiong Ying supported Wu Sangui in spirit, but did not follow Wu Sangui's plan in action, but chose to stay in Beijing. As sourdrang queen said: Wu is guilty, but not guilty. What is the reason?
The first statement is: Kangxi is too close to it. As a "proton" in the Fu Lin era, it has been more than twenty years since Kangxi decided to withdraw from the vassal state. As an important pawn to contain Wu Sangui, it is normal to keep an eye on him from Shunzhi to Kangxi. Wu Xiongying may not have a chance to realize his escape plan at all, especially when Kangxi intends to withdraw his troops from San Francisco, because withdrawing troops from San Francisco is too crucial. Once Wu Xiongying escaped, there were fewer pieces for Kangxi to contain Wu Sangui. But the history is that Wu Sangui did not stop there, and successively captured many cities. Why did he rebel regardless of his son's life and death? Wu is probably not the only son of Wu Sangui. It doesn't matter to lose a son. It may also be that Wu Sangui showed his determination to rebel. It may also be that Wu Sangui's generation is lean and heartless, completely disregarding family ties. In a word, Wu Xiongying didn't abscond, and Wu Sangui also rose up.
The second statement: Wu and have a good relationship. Princess Channing's full name is Heshuo Princess Channing. What is Princess Heshuo? It refers to the emperor princess who concubines. In other words, Princess Channing is the daughter of Huang Taiji. When she was thirteen, she married Wu, the first princess to marry a Han Chinese. It has been more than 20 years since she left Kangxi, and she has two sons (one is dead). Originally it was just a political marriage, but they had a good relationship. Although there is no historical data to prove their feelings, there are many legends and stories that show that Wu and his relationship is really good. In addition, for more than 20 years, Wu had little contact with his father, Wu Sangui, and the relationship between father and son gradually faded. Therefore, this may be an important reason why Wu Xiong Ying did not abscond after the rise of Wu Sangui.
The third statement: Wu recognized the situation clearly and surrendered to the Qing Dynasty ideologically. This may be the fundamental reason why Wu failed to escape. From the Qing Dynasty's entry to the Kangxi period, after the Qing Dynasty entered the Central Plains, the foundation was solid and the people felt at ease. At this time, Wu Sangui rose up, which was tantamount to another life war and massacre. Wu, who has lived in Beijing for a long time, has already surrendered to the Qing Dynasty ideologically and seen the world clearly. Therefore, after the Wu Sangui Uprising, Wu He repeatedly wrote to advise Wu Sangui to stop fighting, but Wu's advice didn't work. Wu Xiongying knew that Wu Sangui would fail, and Wu Sangui would die if he failed. So, whether he goes or not, the result is the same. If he stays in Beijing, he may still have a chance. Unfortunately, in the thirteenth year of Kangxi, Emperor Kangxi ordered the execution of Wu and his son. This year, Princess Channing was only 33 years old, lost her husband and son, and lived a miserable life.
