Dandong is a prefecture-level city in Liaoning Province.

Dandong, formerly known as Anton, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province. Located in the southeast of Liaoning Province, it faces Sinuiju, North Korea across the river in the east, the Yellow Sea in the south, Anshan City in the west, Dalian City in the southwest and Benxi City in the north. The terrain gradually decreases from northeast to southwest, belonging to the warm temperate humid monsoon climate zone, with a total area of 15289.6 square kilometers.

The word "Anton" came into being in the Tang Dynasty, when Anton was the capital of the government. In the second year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1876), Anton County was established, and its prototype was established. Dandong is an important border port in Liaoning Province and a central city in Liaodong approved by the State Council. It is an important port city in Liaoning coastal economic belt and the starting point of the northern end of China's coastline.

The development of history

Dandong has a long history. In the late Paleolithic period, more than 1.8 million years ago, our ancestors worked, lived and multiplied in this land. 3500-4000 years ago, the ancestors here entered the bronze age. Dandong is located in the border of the motherland and has been a military fortress for generations. The Tang Dynasty belongs to Qingzhou and Yu Shun belongs to Yingzhou.

The Warring States period was the eastern frontier of Yan State. In the Western Han Dynasty, Pingxian and Koen Weuts counties were established in Xi. In the first year of Emperor Taizong (668), Anton was appointed as the Protector. Liao, Jianxuanzhou, Kaizhou and Laiyuan City were under the jurisdiction of Yaofufu Road (now jiuliancheng town, Zhen 'an District) in the Jin Dynasty. In the yuan dynasty, it followed the gold system and set up a whirling house. In the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Liaodong.
