10 The former universities under the Ministry of Railways all left the Ministry of Railways in 2000: 1. Southwest Jiaotong University, formerly known as Tangshan Railway Institute, was founded in 1896 and is one of the five official jiaotong universities in China. There are three campuses: Jiuli, Xipu and Emei. The school covers an area of 5,400 mu with a total construction area of 960,000 square meters. The former Nanjing Railway Medical College, formerly known as the Central University Medical College established in 1935, was transformed into Nanjing Railway Medical College in 1958. The former Suzhou Railway Teachers College is the only higher normal school directly under the Ministry of Railways. On March 10, the Ministry of Education officially agreed to change the name of Shijiazhuang Railway Institute to shijiazhuang tiedao university. At this point, all railway institutes have withdrawn from the historical stage.
