Divine Comedy (about 1307- 132 1) is Dante's masterpiece. It took the author 10 years to complete this masterpiece.

Total 14233 lines. Originally known as comedy, it was written in Italian. Boccaccio called it "sacred comedy" in Dante's Biography, and named it in 1555. Divine Comedy has four meanings: literal meaning-Dante visits hell, purgatory and heaven; Fable meaning-good is rewarded with good, and evil with evil; Moral significance-a warning to human beings and a guide to the lost: through conscious suffering, people can perfect human nature and reach the realm of perfection and beauty; Mysterious meaning-a prediction of the sacred things in the future. )

On the Contradiction of the Ideological Content of Divine Comedy

On the one hand, it shows a clear progressive tendency, flashing the dawn of humanistic thought in the new era: 1. It criticized the reaction and corruption of the Christian church, praised the heroes who resisted the Emperor of Heaven, criticized theocracy, advocated the separation of church and state, and restricted the expansion of religious power.

2. Attacked the corrupt feudal bureaucratic ruling group;

3. Deeply exposed the greed and selfishness of the emerging bourgeoisie; 4. Sympathize with human sufferings, care about human destiny, express people's thoughts and feelings, and embody the idea of pursuing secular happiness; 5. Praise the power of knowledge and human dignity, and affirm human power; 6. I absolutely admire the ancient Greek and Roman culture. On the other hand, it shows strong religious theology and asceticism:

Dante boldly exposed the sins of the church, but he did not oppose religion itself;

Although it affirms human strength, it also emphasizes abstinence and penance. People must be guided by theology and belief to get happiness.

Praise the life in this world and make it a preparation for the afterlife.

He admired ancient culture and sent its representative to hell as a heretic.
