The crescent pattern on his forehead stands for "mirror hanging high". People think that he deals with human affairs during the day and the underworld affairs at night. With the mark of this crescent moon, he can freely shuttle between Yin and Yang.
In fact, in a portrait of Bao Zheng in his later years at Baogong Temple in Hefei, Anhui, we can see that Bao Zheng is actually very white. It is said that he is less than 1.7 meters tall and has no moon pattern on his forehead. Another image of "Song Xueshi" also proves that his appearance is not much different from ordinary people.
The reason why people invented a crescent black face for him is inseparable from his political achievements.
experience
Bao Zheng was born in February 15, the second year of Xianping, from Baocun, Luzhou, Anhui (now Baogong Town, Feidong County, Hefei City). His father, Bao Lingyi, moved his family to Hefei shortly after he was admitted as a magistrate.
In the fifth year of Tiansheng (1027), Bao Zheng was admitted as a scholar, and served as the judge of Dali State and the magistrate of Jianchang County (now Yongxiu, Jiangxi Province). Considering parents' advanced age, Bao Zheng requested to take a post near Hefei, so he changed the tax supervision to Zhou (now Anhui County). His parents didn't give up on him and left their hometown. Bao Zheng resigned to support his parents at home. After his parents died one after another, Bao Zheng built a thatched cottage next to his parents' graves, and he was reluctant to leave even after the mourning period. Persuaded by fellow villagers, Bao Zheng didn't go to Beijing to listen to the election until the fourth year of Jing You (1037), and was appointed as the magistrate of Tianchang (now Anhui).
Bao Zheng, who entered the official career, worked in many places successively, and made every effort to relieve the worries of the court and benefit the people in every position. He even impeached the powerful, fair and just, and won the love of the people. Therefore, it enjoys the reputation of "Bao Qingtian" and "Bao Gong" among the people, and there is also a saying in the capital that "Yamaraja can provide for the aged if he can't reach his joints" ... So future generations will worship Bao Zheng as a god.
In the seventh year of Jiayou (1062), Bao Zheng died at the age of sixty-four, and was posthumously awarded the title of Shangshu. Posthumous title, later called Sue.
Niu Tongue Case After Bao Zheng took office in Tianchang County, a farmer's county government cried, saying that the cow at home had its tongue cut by the bad guys and wanted to find the murderer. Although this case is small, it has a bad influence. After some discussion, Bao Zheng told the complaining farmers to go home and kill the cows and sell them in the market. The farmer who reported the case was very angry because it was illegal to kill cattle. Bao Zheng told him to kill the cow at ease, and told him not to say that the cow's tongue had been cut. The man saw that Bao Zheng didn't like joking, so he did it one by one.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before someone went to Bao Zheng to "report" that someone had slaughtered cattle privately. Bao Zheng immediately ordered the arrest of the informer. After some interrogation, the man quickly confessed truthfully. It turns out that this man has a problem with the owner of the cow. To get revenge, he found a machine to cut off the cow's tongue. Now, seeing that the owner dared not speak out, he killed the cow privately, thinking that he could "beat Reservoir Dogs", so he came to the court to report the case.
