After Yin Zhen ascended the throne of yongzheng emperor, it was expanded into a detached palace where the emperor lived for a long time. During the Qianlong period, it was expanded again and completed in the 9th year (1744).

The Qianlong period was the last prosperous time of China feudal society. Qianlong summoned skilled craftsmen from all over the country to expand and build Yuanmingyuan on an unprecedented scale. In addition to the partial addition, reconstruction and perfection of the famous "Forty Scenes of Yuanmingyuan", Changchun and other gardens have been built in the east.

In the thirty-five years of Qianlong (1770), the pattern of Yuanming, Changchun and Qichun gardens was basically formed. The whole garden is 2620m wide from east to west, with a length of1880m from north to south and a total length of about11000m. * * Covers an area of 350 hectares, including 65,438 water surfaces.

Yuanmingyuan is not only famous for its gardens, but also a royal museum.
