The History and Culture of Yuyao River
There are rich cultural heritages along the Yaojiang River. Hemudu Site in Hemudu Town, Yuyao City can be traced back to 7000 years ago. At that time, rice cultivation was very mature, and animal husbandry and textile appeared. Juzhangcheng, located in Cicheng Town, Jiangbei District, is the earliest city in Ningbo. It was built by Gou Jian, King of Yue, in 473 BC and has a long shipping record. In the middle and late Ming Dynasty, the Yaojiang School formed by Wang Yangming and other scholars along the Yaojiang River became the peak of China's ancient subjective idealism philosophy. Lacking bridges in ancient times, a series of ancient ferries such as Jiangjiadu, Shushan, Zhang Ting, Liu Che, Huang Mu (Hemudu), Chengshan, Mianpu, Hong Chen, Xijiang, Xihongdu, Shaojiadu, Qinglin, Li Qing and Taohua were formed on both sides of Yaojiang River. Although many ferries are no longer used, these place names still exist today.
