The masses are the real heroes, and we ourselves are often naive and ridiculous. If we don't understand this, we can't get the minimum knowledge.

People have unlimited creativity. They can organize themselves, March into all places and departments where they can exert their strength, March into the depth and breadth of production, and create more and more welfare undertakings for themselves.

At present, the rise of the peasant movement is a big problem. In a very short time, hundreds of millions of farmers will rise from the central, southern and northern provinces of China, and the situation will be like a storm, which will be extremely rapid, and no matter what big forces will be suppressed. They will break through all the traps that bind them and rush to liberation quickly. All imperialists, warlords, corrupt officials, local tyrants and evil gentry will be buried in their graves. All revolutionary parties and comrades will be tested by them and decided to abandon them. Stand in front of them and lead them? Or stand behind them and criticize them? Or stand opposite them and oppose them? In China, everyone has the freedom to choose these three items, but the situation will force you to make a quick choice.
Investigation report on Hunan peasant movement (1March, 927), volume I of Selected Works of Mao Zedong, page 13- 14.
At present, the climax of rural cooperative reform has arrived in some places, and the whole country is coming soon. This is a large-scale socialist revolutionary movement with a rural population of more than 500 million, which is of great world significance. We should actively and enthusiastically lead this movement in a planned way, instead of pulling it back in various ways. It is understandable and not difficult to correct some deviations in exercise. Shortcomings and mistakes among cadres and peasants can be overcome and corrected as long as we actively help them.

The masses have great enthusiasm for socialism. People who only walked by convention during the revolutionary period could not see such enthusiasm at all. They are blind, and all that appears in front of them is darkness. Sometimes, they simply confuse right and wrong and black and white. Haven't we met such a person yet? These people who only play cards according to the routine always underestimate the enthusiasm of the people. When a new thing appears, they always don't recognize it and oppose it from the beginning. Then I admit defeat and make a little self-criticism. The second new thing appeared and they repeated it according to these two attitudes. In the future, all kinds of new things will be handled according to this format. This kind of person is always passive, always stops at critical moments, and always needs someone to pat him on the back before he is willing to take a step forward.
Notes on the article "Two-year cooperation in this village" (1955), vol. 587-588, the socialist climax in rural areas of China.
For more than 20 years, our party has been doing mass work every day. 10 has been talking about the mass line every day for more than 20 years. We have always advocated that the revolution should rely on the masses of the people, and everyone should start work, and we are opposed to relying only on a few people to give orders. However, in the work of some comrades, the mass line has still not been implemented, and a few people still do their work coldly. One of the reasons is that when they do something, they are always unwilling to explain it clearly to the people who are led, and they don't know how to give full play to the enthusiasm and creativity of the leaders. Subjectively, they also want everyone to do it, but they don't let everyone know what they want to do and how to do it. So how can everyone move and do things well? To solve this problem, of course, we should educate comrades of the mass line ideologically and teach them many specific methods at the same time.

Twenty-four years' experience tells us that all correct tasks, policies and work styles are suitable for the requirements of the local people at that time and are in contact with the masses; All wrong tasks, policies and work styles did not meet the requirements of the local people at that time and were divorced from the masses.
