Chen Qingzhi was a famous strategist in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. He was familiar with the scriptures when he was young, but when he was an adult, he was called into the palace by the emperor and became a civil servant, having nothing to do with the army. It was not until he was in his forties that he began to lead troops to fight. Chen Qingzhi's first battle was against the Northern Wei Dynasty. Chen Qingzhi has only two thousand military forces, but the Northern Wei Dynasty sent twenty thousand troops. Arguably, the total number of military forces in Chen Qingzhi is only 2,000, so it should occupy the natural barrier to defend itself. However, Chen Qingzhi was desperate and led an army to attack the Wei Jun barrier, and Wei Jun was defeated. From then on, Chen Qingzhi started his life, and he always won.
Zhang Xun, on the other hand, has read many books since childhood and is familiar with the art of war. At the beginning, he only became a small county magistrate. Until the An Shi Rebellion broke out, Zhang Xun didn't want to betray the Tang Dynasty. He would rather die than retreat. He formed a Tang Jun of about 2,000 people to defend the city and resist the rebels led by Hu Ling Chao and others. During this period, he defended himself for more than a year without food and support until the court sent troops to meet him. At this point, Zhang Xun's 2,000-strong army has only less than 400 people, which is heroic.
Besides Chen Qingzhi and Zhang Xun, there are many scholars in Chinese history, such as Ban Chao in Han Dynasty and Yu Qian in Ming Dynasty. These people also deserve our admiration.
