The historical origin of incantations
This spell originated from the wizard. There is a saying in Shangshu Wuyi that "the tongue curses the wish", which means: "It is a wish to tell God with words, and it is a curse to ask God to add suffering." (1) Its writing form, first seen in the tombs of the Eastern Han Dynasty, was connected with the charm as a piece of paper, indicating that the charm and spell had been combined in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Therefore, Taoism inherits runes as well as spells. Since then, when practicing Taoism, the spell combination has always been customized. In the long-term teaching and learning process, Taoism has made great progress in incantations and created various incantations suitable for various occasions. They are scattered in many runes and Taoist books, and some special books about spells are also collected. For example, there are 736 long and short spells in 12 volumes in "Three-hole Divine Spells in Taishang", which is a large number.
