Hami was first called Yiwulu. During the Western Han Dynasty, it was located at the junction of Central Plains, Xiongnu and Western Regions. It has been a strategic throat since ancient times. The Huns and the Han Dynasty fought countless wars for Yiwulu. After the opening of the Western Regions in the Western Han Dynasty, Yiwu Land was attached to the Hufu of the Western Regions, connecting the Central Plains and the Western Regions, as well as more distant Europe. The Han Dynasty also suppressed the Huns.
During the Sixteen Kingdoms Period in Wuhu, due to the establishment of many cool countries in Liangzhou, the importance of the western regions became more prominent, and the status of Yiwu was higher. After Guo Liang was destroyed by the Northern Wei Dynasty, Yiwu did not enter Wei, so it was soft. It was not until AD 488, the twelfth year of the Northern Wei Dynasty, that Yiwu was captured.
Yiwu city at that time was not in Hami city now. Until four years after the great cause of Yang Di the Great. Yiwu County was called Yi Xi State, and was renamed Yizhou soon. From Kublai Khan in Yuan Shizu to the eighteenth year of Yuan Dynasty, Yiwu belonged to Gansu Province and was named Hami in A.D. 128 1 year.
