1958, Soviet experts said that Shanghai is located in soft soil stratum with high water content and is not suitable for tunnel construction. 1963, the earliest subway construction was explored and tested in Tangqiao, Pudong. In a farmland, a shield with a diameter of 4.2 meters is tried to be excavated by structural method, and a tunnel with a diameter of 100 meters is pushed by reinforced concrete segment, which verifies the feasibility of building a tunnel in silt and muddy clay.
During the period of 1964, the subway tunnel and subway station near Hengshan Park were tested. The subway test project was code-named "Project 60", which was completely confidential at that time. The size of the station is only 80 meters *20 meters *20 meters, and the scale is built according to the truck train with a depth of 3 meters. The construction technology is deep well construction. When connecting with hengshan road, two 600-meter-long tunnels were dug, and the whole project was called Shanghai Metro Capacity Expansion Test Project. Because the stations and underground tunnels are small in scale and too deep, they were not integrated into the construction of 1 line, but laid the foundation for the subsequent subway construction. As of 20 14, the facility still exists underground of Hengshan Park.
At the end of 1970s, the second experimental tunnel was tested underground in Caoxi Park, with an investment of more than 40 million RMB and a total length of1.290m.. This section of the line adopts the structural method to build a square tunnel with underground continuous cement wall, which is obviously different from the circular tunnel excavated by shield machine later. This line is the official line of Shanghai Rail Transit 1.
