Nanning belonged to Baiyue territory in ancient times.
After Qin Shihuang unified Lingnan area, Nanning belonged to Guilin County.
In the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wudi placed it under the jurisdiction of Yulin County.
In the first year of Daxing in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (AD 3 18), Daxing County was established, and Nanning was the seat of county administration. Since then, Nanning has been established for more than 1600 years.
In the eighth year of Zhenguan in the Tang Dynasty (AD 634), Emperor Taizong named this place Yongzhou and established the Xiadou House in Yongzhou, which is the origin of Nanning's abbreviation "Yong".
In the first year of Taiding in the Yuan Dynasty (A.D. 13 14), the central government changed Tanzhou Road to Nanning Road, which meant peace in southern Xinjiang, hence the name "Nanning".
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was established 1958, and Nanning became the capital of the autonomous region.
