About the author:

Lewis M. hopf (1935—1992)1956 graduated from Baylor University in the United States with a bachelor's degree in history and religion; 1960 obtained a master's degree in theology from Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary. 1965 received his doctorate in Old Testament Studies from Boston University. After that, he worked as a theological teacher at Kendall College. At the early stage of teaching, Dr. hopf realized that students lacked guide books for learning world religions. It has become his goal to provide students with a concise, appropriate and readable textbook. Based on this, the first edition of World Religions was published in 1979. Dr. hopf is "a writer, a teacher, a priest, an archaeologist, a dean, a weightlifter and a spiritual mentor to students, colleagues and parishioners", and he profoundly interprets these roles through words and language. World religion is his legacy to academic circles.

Mark R. Woodward is an associate professor in the field of religious studies at Arizona State University and a visiting professor of comparative religion at the Center for Religious and Intercultural Studies at Ghazamada University in Indonesia. He received his Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Illinois and studied at Chicago Theological Seminary. His research focuses on Islam, Buddhism, Christianity and native religions in Southeast Asia. Most of his research in the past decade has focused on religion, conflict and violence in Southeast Asia and around the world.
