During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Hexi area refers to the area west of Yuncheng section of the Yellow River and east of Shuijing. Jin and Qin in the Spring and Autumn Period and Wei and Qin in the Warring States Period fought for this area for more than 300 years and hundreds of battles. After the war ended in 345 BC, Qin Huiwen lived in Hexi area of Wang Zhanling.
After Emperor Wudi defeated the Xiongnu in the Battle of Hexi, the Western Han Dynasty completely occupied the Hexi Corridor and opened the road to the Western Regions. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty placed our envoys in Hexi to govern Gansu and Hexi Corridor.
It starts from Wushaoling in the east, borders Xinjiang in the west and the desert in the north. A narrow strip with a length of 1000 km from east to west and a width of only 40 ~1000 km from north to south. Including Jiuquan, Zhangye, Wuwei, Jinchang and Jiayuguan, and Yongchang, Jinchuan, Suzhou, Yumen, Jinta, Guazhou, Dunhuang, Subei, Aksai, Zhangye, Shandan, Minle, Linze, Gao Tai, Sunan, Tianzhu, Minqin, Gulang and Wuwei 19 counties and cities.
There are many famous ministers and good generals in Hedong area. Zhang Yi, a famous politician in the Warring States Period, Li Mu and Li Bing, a hydraulic scientist, Wei Qing, Huo Qubing, Huo Guang, Guan Yu, Zhang Liao and Huang Xu in the Han Dynasty, Wei Shuo, a famous female calligrapher in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Weichi Gong, Xue, and (Hedong) and Sima Guang in the Song Dynasty.
