Due to excessive logging in history, the land has become increasingly barren, and the wind and sand in the northern desert have been unscrupulously blown to Beijing and other places. Since the establishment of 1962, three generations of forest farm builders have worked hard and are willing to contribute in the desert sandy land where "yellow sand covers the sky and birds have no trees".
It has created the world's largest plantation with an area of 1 1.2 million mu, and the forest coverage rate has increased from 1 1.4% to the present 80%, creating a green mileage of changing wasteland into forest, explaining the concept that clear water and green mountains are priceless assets with practical actions, and casting the spirit of Saihanba with a mission in mind, hard work and green development.
Ecological significance of Saihanba
Saihanba Forest Farm purifies the air every year, absorbing 747,000 tons of carbon dioxide and releasing 545,000 tons of oxygen, which can be used by nearly one tenth of Beijingers for one year.
According to 20 tons of dust per mu of forest, the forest farm absorbs 22.4 million tons of dust every year. Saihanba is the birthplace of Luanhe River and other rivers, which purifies and transports 654.38+37 million cubic meters of clean fresh water to Beijing and Tianjin every year. According to the assessment of Chinese Academy of Forestry, Saihanba forest ecosystem provides more than 654.38+0.2 billion yuan of ecological value every year.
