What is the role of the expansion of Yungang Grottoes? (People teach history 22 lessons) Quick, urgent need
Expand the sightseeing space and optimize the viewing environment.

Yungang Grottoes Research Institute identified 2007 as the first year of protection and construction of Yungang Grottoes. In order to let tourists from all over the world better feel the beauty of image, culture and history of Yungang Grottoes, a world heritage, the institute expanded the bluestone ground in front of Cave 13 to 20 caves about 15 meters, which nearly doubled the sightseeing space in front of the cave. The newly-built Tan Yao Cave Square is full of flowers and green grass, which is beautiful. On the tree-lined path, small stone benches and wooden chairs are specially set up for tourists to rest, which can not only alleviate the fatigue of the journey, but also allow tourists to watch the charm of the Millennium Buddha from a distance after rest.

In terms of humanized management of scenic spots, Yungang Grottoes Scenic Area is considerate of tourists and strives to do its best in every detail of serving tourists. Since the beginning of this year, they have reduced and widened the uphill roads leading to caves in the west, added stone guardrails and set up special anti-skid passages for the disabled. The two steps in front of the fifth and sixth caves in the middle of the grottoes were changed to gentle slopes, and the old road with a width of 3 meters behind the reception room was changed to 9 meters, effectively alleviating the congestion problem of tourists during the peak period of sightseeing.
