Legend has it that hundreds of years ago, there was a merchant ship from somewhere in the south of the Yangtze River. Suddenly, there was a strong wind at sea. The strong wind rolled up the huge waves and pounced mercilessly on the merchant ship. The people on board were struggling in the wind and waves, hoping to find a place to hide. However, the ship is sailing in the sea, and there is no land or island around it. Where can we find shelter from the wind? People are disappointed and pray for God's blessing. But to no avail, the wind is getting stronger and the waves are getting bigger and bigger. The ship jolted in the wind and waves, then it was lifted above the wave peak and then thrown into the wave valley ... In this way, one day passed, another day passed, ... days and nights passed, and the wind and waves still didn't stop. The mast of the ship was broken by the wind and the rudder was overturned by the waves. The ship lost control and floated on the sea like a leaf. The ship has run out of fresh water and no food. The boatmen, exhausted and depressed, leaned on the deck and let the boat drift. It's getting dark again and the moon is rising. I saw the sky and the sea were dark, and I couldn't see my fingers. Only the night wind and the waves were still whistling.
Suddenly, in despair, I don't know who exclaimed, "Look, there is a fire ahead!" " "Everyone got up and looked for it, and sure enough, there was a little tiny light flashing in the darkness ahead, flickering in the wind and waves. Where there is fire, there are people, and there is hope. Everyone was full of energy, forgot hunger and fatigue, and rowed the boat to the fire. Gradually, the fire is getting closer and closer, and you can vaguely see an island in front of you, and the fire on the island is shining. Finally, the boat docked, and the ferryman got off the boat and walked to the fire. After a while, they saw a house in front, with a light in front of the window. The ferryman hurried forward and knocked at the door. After a while, the door opened and an old man appeared at the door. Everyone bowed and told their stories, and asked the old man to give some tea and rice.
The old man readily agreed and called an old man out to meet everyone. When they entered the house with the old couple, they found that the room was not spacious, but it was very quaint and amiable. The old man ordered the old man to make a fire and cook, and arranged for everyone to rest. I saw the old man dig out a bowl of rice from the back room, wash it and pour it into the pot. When everyone saw it, they were thinking, "How can a bowl of rice solve everyone's hunger?" Although the ferryman is hungry, it is difficult to talk about it. After a while, the meal was ready, and the old man greeted everyone for dinner. Everyone ate as much as they wanted and had a full meal, but the rice in the pot did not decrease. Everyone was secretly surprised, but it was not convenient to ask. After dinner, the ferryman thanked each other and said, "I will never forget saving my life." I don't know why, Lao Zhang. What's your name? "The old man smiled and replied," This is Liu Jiadao. The old man's surname is Liu. "Then he took out a bag of food and sent them back to the boat to have a rest.
The next morning, the wind and waves were light and the sun was shining. The ferryman went to the island to look for water again and searched all over the island, but he didn't see the house or the old man last night. But I see the trees on the island are lush, the birds are singing and the flowers are fragrant. They all woke up and said, "We are lucky to meet a fairy."
Later, the ship passed here again. The ferryman went to the island again to look for it. The island is still lush with trees and flowers, but the old man and the house are still missing. In order to commemorate Gong Liu and Liu Mu's saving lives, all the ferrymen raised funds to build a Liugong Temple on the island, in which two clay sculptures of Gong Liu and Liu Mu were enshrined as a memorial. After the completion of Liugong Temple, boatmen will go to the island to pray every time they pass by. Since then, the reputation of Liugong Temple has been growing, and the island has gradually been called Liu Gongdao. On February 3, 1895, the Japanese fleet filed in a single file and provoked outside Weihai Port. In the early morning 10, the Japanese fleet sailed to the south exit of the seaport, and first fired at the Donghong Fort on the Liu Gongdao. At this time, the seven cannons destroyed by the Qing army on Nanbang Fort have been repaired by the Japanese army and used by the Japanese army to bomb Donghong Fort in Liu Gongdao. The coastal battery and the Japanese fleet launched an attack on Liu Gongdao. Although the war situation was extremely unfavorable to Beiyang Navy, Beiyang Governor Ding and his men were fearless and fought to the death. A day after the artillery battle between the two sides, the Japanese warship could not get close to Ahava Port, and finally had to retreat.
The Japanese failed to attack Liu Gongdao by sea and land, so they decided to attack by torpedo. But torpedoing beiyang fleet is not an easy task. On February 3, the Japanese torpedo boat failed to sneak attack and had to retreat and escape. On February 5, the Japanese ship attacked again, hitting the tail of Dingyuan ship, and the hull was seriously damaged. Dingyuan ship ran aground on the beach on the south bank of Liu Gongdao. On February 6, a Japanese ship fired a torpedo and hit the Laiyuan ship, killing all 30 people on board. At the same time, the training ship Weiyuan and the poor ship Dingfu were also sunk. In the afternoon, the Japanese joint fleet launched a sea attack on Liu Gongdao again. After fierce fighting, the Japanese fleet was repulsed again. On February 7th, Ito Sukeyuki, commander of the Japanese joint fleet, was determined to capture Liu Gongdao and adowa beiyang fleet. Beiyang fleet's ships fought back with Liu Gongdao and Erdao Fort. The flagship ships of the Japanese army, Matsushima, Li Qiao, Qiujinzhou and Su Lang, were all shot and injured, which was one of the setbacks for the Japanese joint fleet. Just then, beiyang fleet torpedo boat captain Wang Pingping wavered and plotted to escape. The flight and mutiny created by Wang Ping and a group of national scum not only weakened beiyang fleet's strength, but also affected the morale of the Qing army, causing extremely serious consequences for the war in Liu Gongdao and committing unforgivable crimes.
