Architectural characteristics of Shanghai Bund
From 65438 to1940s, after the concession was occupied by Britain and France, the Bund became a sovereign area. Western powers operate, manage and build concessions in their own way. Commercial banks and financial enterprises have occupied a place on the Bund, and they have built a lot of buildings. Most of the buildings on the Bund have been rebuilt more than three times.

In the 20th century, due to the development of building technology and the growth of economic strength, multi-storey and high-rise buildings appeared on the Bund, with various styles, including English classical, English neoclassical, British Renaissance Asia Building (formerly Shanghai Metallurgical Design Institute), Shanghai General Association (now Dongfeng Hotel), Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Building (formerly HSBC Building) and Chahe Building (now Foreign Trade Bureau Building).

There are also French classical style, French mansion style, Gothic style, Baroque style, modern Western style, East Indian style, eclectic style, and mixed Chinese and Western styles. , showing the situation of buildings all over the world. Therefore, this building complex, which starts from Baidu Bridge outside Suzhou Creek in the north and ends at Zhongshan East Road and Jinling East Road in the south, is known as the "World Architecture Expo". These buildings with both classicism and modernism have become the symbol of Shanghai.

The Bund has four distinct seasons, mild and humid, abundant rainfall and long frost-free period, belonging to subtropical monsoon climate. The Bund is short in spring and autumn and long in winter and summer. More than 60% of the annual rainfall is concentrated in the flood season from May to September.

There are 33 buildings on the Bund, some of which are still requisitioned by some institutions. For example, the Bund 13 Customs Building, which was built in the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927), is still the resident of Shanghai Customs. The Bund 14 Bank of Communications Building is the youngest building on the Bund. Completed in 37 years of the Republic of China (1948), it has been used by Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

There are also banks, insurance company headquarters and high-end hotels in various countries, such as the Bund 1 Asia Building, which was built in1913; Nissin Building, also known as Maritime Building, was built in the 14th year of the Republic of China (1925) and was originally a building of Nissin Foreign Firm. 1: It is now the headquarters of China Pacific Insurance Company, formerly known as Asia Building. Known as "the tallest building on the Bund" in history, it is the oldest building in Shanghai with baroque style at the bottom and upper part and modernist style in the middle.

The building inherits the balanced and symmetrical architectural style of the Renaissance, but it is decorated with baroque vortex patterns.

5th place: It belongs to Huaxia Bank and was originally the Nissin Company Building in Japan. It is the product of the combination of modern Japanese western architecture and classical architectural style. The facade is granite, which was built in the 10th year of the Republic of China (192 1).

6th place: It belongs to Hong Kong Qiaofu International Enterprise Co., Ltd., formerly China Commercial Bank Building. Built in the 23rd year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1897), it is one of the oldest existing buildings on the Bund. The exterior wall of the building is covered with granite and has a row of sharp corners in British Gothic style. It is a typical building on the Bund from the end of 65438 to the beginning of the 20th century.

It was established in the 12th year of the Republic of China (1923). The three bronze gates and the bronze lions on both sides were specially cast in England. It is said that the bronze mold was destroyed immediately after casting, and the lion became an out-of-print treasure. An octagonal hall protrudes from the middle of the ground floor and enters the spacious business hall.

At the top of the foyer, there are eight murals made of colorful mosaics, depicting the architectural features of eight major cities in the early 20th century, including Shanghai, Hongkong, London, Paris, new york, Tokyo, Bangkok and Kolkata. Next to the painting is the words "All men are brothers within the four seas". After liberation, the Shanghai Municipal Government used to work here. This building costs 8 million taels of silver and is known as "the most exquisite building from Suez Canal to Bering Strait".

13: Now it is the Customs Building, which is the sister building of the HSBC Building. It was built in the Republic of China 16 (1927), and it was modeled after the Big Ben of the British Parliament Building. It was built by Joyce Company in England and assembled in Shanghai.

The clock on the facade of this building is the largest clock in Asia and one of the most famous clocks in the world (one of the only three Westminster clocks in the world, the other two are Big Ben in the British Parliament and Basque Clock in Russian Red Square). The original Westminster chime rang every hour, but it was changed to Dongfanghong during the Cultural Revolution. ?

Zilin West Newspaper was originally a four-page English weekly newspaper, which published business quotations, shipping schedules, flights and other traffic information. Later, he often published announcements and news bulletins from the British Concession authorities, and was called the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Industry of the Concession.
