On the eve of Battle of Red Cliffs, Jiang Gan, Cao Cao's counselor, befriended Zhou Yu and asked him to surrender by crossing the river. Zhou Yu also played with them, and hosted a banquet for generals and close friends, known as the "Heroes' Club".
During the dinner, they celebrated by singing and dancing, and invited Jiang Gan to sleep together. Immediately, they pretended to be drunk and secretly put the forged surrender books of Cai Mao and Zhang Yun on their desks.
Jiang Gan's surrender failed and he was helpless. Zhou Yu read the copy while "sleeping" and "bumped into" this letter. He was frightened and returned to Jiangbei overnight to inform Cao Cao. Cao Cao immediately beheaded Cai and Zhang. Zhou Yu secretly liked Cao Cao's move, except for the generals who were familiar with water wars.
